Antioch

We went to Antioch (about an hour and half from Adana) a few Saturdays ago. We went with my friend Renee and her daughter Sydney (Londyn's age). We also went with our Cedar friends, the Carpenters. We were bummed that Linda couldn't come this time.

Antioch is where the first Christian church is. It is where the Apostle Peter preached. We have pictures at the church, known as St. Peter's Groto. On the same hill the church is at, there are huge stone carvings that look like Mary and Joseph. There are also trails underground. Renee helped the kids crawl down in one.

The kids even found a box turtle. They were thrilled. We went to the worlds largest mosaic museum. Many of the mosaics were in excellent condition. It was hard to believe that this is the "worlds largest," but Turkey claims it. :) We saw the remains of tombs, including all the jewerly and gold inside.

We watched a man weave carpets on a old loom. We bought one of his carpets. Now, these are totally different than the famous Turkish carpets. They were really cheap and it was neat that we saw him making the carpets. The one we bought is in Addie's room. It cost 15 lira ($10.00). You can't beat that.

We didn't realize we were so close to Syria (10 miles or so). It was eerie that everyone around us was speaking Arabic.

We went to Apollo's Waterfall. It was fun to walk around. There was a restaurant in the area. Renee and I chased after the kids and found the way the restaurant washed their dishes, we think. :) Check out the picture. All I can say is... We live in Turkey!

That's a fun trip! We went there this time last year with the Reksicks and Udys. Looks like you all had a good time, and the girls were cute in their halloween costumes.
